Yesterday the winners were announced. I didn't really pay it any mind. All day I was at work I ignored the list. I figured when I got home I'll be able to hit the facebook group and say my congratulations to the other authors and then go back to writing. Then a reader sent me a private message excited saying "did you see it?"
I wasn't sure what she was talking about so she sent me the link. I went and checked and you guys voted Talk Dirty to Me as the best Interracial winner! I was totally blown away. Thank you so much for this. It was my first time writing a story like this and although it's short, it means so much to me.
Since I began writing many, many years ago, I've only ever been nominated for something about six times. Maybe I've been nominated and didn't know but as far as I know it's only been six. I've won twice. Once for Phaze Bestselling Author of the year back in 2009 and this year.
I am never the one to seek out nominations or the like - hell I don't even go looking for reviews for my work. The only reviews I really ever see are those my publishers email to me or a reader emailing me telling me they like my story or asking for another story I'd written with one of my now defunct publishers. I try to focus more, over the last couple of years, on why I started writing and then getting into the MM genre in the first place. I do it for love. I do it because I'm an ally who has no other talents to fight homophobia with than my fingers.
What I'm trying to say is THANK YOU. People always say it is nice to feel appreciated and it is. It is VERY nice to feel appreciated. So thank you to everyone who voted, everyone who meant to vote and forgot (happens to me all the time lol), and everyone who've bought the story and read it - hell thank you to everyone who bought any of my stories and read it. Despite all the crap happening in the MM genre lately, I'm truly happy to be able to spread my love with all of you.
Love,
Remmy D
